Patrick Mahomes is Already Predicting Plays From Next Year's Super Bowl
By Joe Summers
Patrick Mahomes is fresh off his third Super Bowl MVP award but is apparently already thinking about a potential fourth.
Appearing on Logan Paul's podcast after his recent partnership with the PRIME energy drink brand, Mahomes talked about the famous "Corndog" and "Tom and Jerry" plays that led to TDs in those last two Super Bowl wins.
To hear Mahomes tell it, it sounds like he plans to use a variation of the play for a third straight year with this next Super Bowl down in New Orleans.
Patrick Mahomes Says He'll Run "Corndog" Again in Next Year's Super Bowl
In the clip, Mahomes talks about how they ran the "Corndog" play against the Eagles, then intended to use a variation of it against the 49ers.
The play against the 49ers, ultimately dubbed "Tom and Jerry" by Andy Reid, was meant to be a fake that resulted in a shovel pass up the middle. To Mahomes' surprise, "it was wide open again."
With perhaps the boldest claim we've heard from Mahomes, he delcared, "Next year in New Orleans, we're running it again. I'm putting it on the table."
Looking back at the play, my best guess is that the shovel pass was meant to go to Jerick McKinnon or Noah Gray, though Mahomes diagnosed the defense so quickly that it's difficult to tell. In either case, I love hearing Mahomes so quickly declare that his offense would be back in the Super Bowl with a chance to keep running fancy plays.
Mahomes has been on quite the media tour of late, causing a ruckus during a WWE Monday Night Raw show in Kansas City and releasing a new line of "Dad Bod" shirts to benefit his charity. He's on top of the world and it's beautiful to see him embrace it.
