NFL Makes Big Decision With Justyn Ross Following Arrest

We've got a new development in Justyn Ross' legal matters that'll sideline him for the foreseeable future.

Ross has been placed on the Commissioner Exempt List by the NFL following his arrest, preventing him from practicing or participating in games for the duration of his stint.

The Kansas City Chiefs have not yet commented on the development, though we know for certain that Ross will not play against the Broncos in Week 8.

Since this is a developing story, we also have not heard any comment from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Ross pled not guilty this week on charges of domestic battery and criminal damage less than $1,000 and his next trial appearance is set for December 4th.

Ross has appeared in three games with the Chiefs this season, compiling three catches for 34 yards.

What is the NFL's Commissioner Exempt List?

When a player is placed on the Commissioner Exempt List, he cannot participate in team activities. It was partially created to deal with uncertain legal matters that require more investigation, hence Ross' inclusion.

The Commissioner Exempt List is described "as a 'special player status' made available to clubs only in unusual circumstances." Players on the list do not count towards the 53-man roster, so Kansas City can make a corresponding move as a result.

There is no definitive timetable for a player's status on the Exempt List. Roger Goodell has sole autonomy to decide who is on the list and for how long, as organizations themselves have no power in the matter.
