New Rashee Rice Report Could Complicate Potential Suspension
By Joe Summers
A new unconfirmed report indicates Rashee Rice may have had behavioral issues at SMU as well. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, there was an unreported incident during Rice's college days that led to him falling on some team's draft boards.
As Rice is being investigated for an alleged assault at a Dallas nightclub early Monday morning and awaiting legal process regarding the car crash in March, reports like this complicate matters.
I don't believe that this report will impact Rice's potential suspension, as Florio insinuates, and it's possible the Chiefs were already aware of the story if it is true. Either way, this is the first time the public is hearing this particular accusation.
New Report Alleges Rashee Rice Involved in Incident at SMU
"Per multiple sources, multiple teams learned during the pre-draft process about an alleged incident involving Rice while he was at SMU," writes Florio. "Rice believed former SMU basketball player Kendric Davis was seeing Rice’s girlfriend. Rice and some of his friends, per the specific information gathered by at least one team, went to an SMU basketball game."
He continues, "Rice (or someone with him), per the specific information gathered by at least one team, fired multiple bullets into the empty car belonging to Kendric Davis."
Florio notes that according to his sources, every team in the NFL was aware of the alleged incident, including the Chiefs.
It's important to remember that this is merely a report and we don't know if it's true or not. Kansas City has learned to take what Florio says with a grain of salt, though it's certainly not good news for Rice that this accusation is now public.
"The incident could become relevant to the NFL, if/when it imposes discipline on Rice under the Personal Conduct Policy," theorizes Florio. I don't believe that an unreported incident would impact the eventual punishment from the NFL's perspective, though it could, in theory, impact how the Chiefs monitor Rice moving forward.
