The ongoing position battle at left tackle between Wanya Morris and Kingsley Suamataia is perhaps the largest question left surrounding this year's team.

Nate Taylor of The Athletic took that one step further, calling the battle the biggest concern ahead of training camp starting in late July. Morris started four games last year though the team signaled a lack of confidence by taking Suamataia in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Some have speculated the Chiefs could make a trade or sign another tackle in free agency but I believe the team intends to start one of their two recent high draft picks.

Left Tackle Battle Named Chiefs' Biggest Concern

Andy Reid said he was impressed with both players thus far, and I trust in the Chiefs to put the best possible line on the field to protect Patrick Mahomes. Last year's starter, Donovan Smith, is still a free agent, so they could always sign him again if they absolutely needed to.

Taylor writes, "The lone major position battle when the Chiefs start training camp next month is at left tackle, the premium position most responsible for protecting the blind side of Mahomes, the league’s best quarterback"

With established veterans filling the rest of the line, I'm confident overall. "During mandatory minicamp, the Chiefs gave more first-team repetitions to Suamataia to help prepare him for the next few months," Taylor continues. "As a rookie, Morris was solid but showed he needed to improve as a pass protector. The primary concern is that both players struggle to progress throughout training camp and the preseason."

It's a fair concern, though it speaks to how stacked the Chiefs' roster is overall. Left tackle is an important position but I'm confident in both Morris and Suamataia. If that's Kansas City's biggest problem, the franchise is well-positioned to keep the dynasty rolling.
