Chris Jones' contract negotiations are the elephant in the room for the Kansas City Chiefs this season. After a contentious offseason, Jones could be entering his final days in a Chiefs uniform.

Pro Football Focus released contract projections on Wednesday, naming Jones the top free agent available. At least according to these numbers, it's difficult to imagine the Chiefs keeping their longtime defensive leader.

Check out the projections below.

Latest Chris Jones Contract Projection Too Pricey for Chiefs

PPF projects that Jones will get a four-year deal worth $120 million with $80 million guaranteed. Given the Chiefs were balking at $30 million per year prior to the season, I don't foresee Brett Veach signing this deal now that Jones is a year older.

George Karlaftis' emergence makes this decision a bit easier. The Chiefs are likely better served spreading that money around, with players like Creed Humphrey, Nick Bolton, Trey Smith, L'Jarius Sneed, Mike Danna and others all coming up on contract negotiations soon as well.

Chris Jones is one of the greatest Chiefs players of all-time and synonymous with Kansas City's defense, though it seems the days of him in red are coming to a close.

There is a lot of time between now and the offseason. Perhaps the two sides can come to an agreement. In the meantime, I'll enjoy every snap we get of Jones with the Chiefs.
