Much-maligned Chiefs WR Kadarius Toney seemingly sealed his unfortunate fate during Kansas City's second preseason game on Saturday.

Taking on the Lions, Toney came in after Patrick Mahomes had already finished his day. He promptly committed two different penalties on his first play, a brutal start to what's been an underwhelming summer for the former first-round pick.

With Justyn Ross firmly moving ahead of Toney on the depth chart throughout training camp and players like Skyy Moore and Nikko Remigio in the mix as well, it appears Toney's days as a Chief are nearing their conclusion.

Kadarius Toney Commits Two Different Penalties on First Play

It was confirmed that Toney did indeed commit the infractions. Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, and Rashee Rice worked with the first team before Carson Wentz took over at QB, and Toney notably has been behind both Moore and Remigio on special teams throughout the summer.

Toney's talent has always been spectacular, though frequent injuries, inconsistent production and suddenly a large issue with penalties have rendered him unreliable.

Barring an unexpected decision, it looks like Ross will make the 53-man roster while Moore and Remigio battle it out for the final spot. You can make a sound argument for either player and it'll likely come down to the final days of practice and third preseason game.

If this is the end for Toney in Kansas City, he'll still have a Super Bowl TD and holds the record for the longest punt return in the famous game's history. He never reached his immense ceiling, though the Chiefs' trade for him is a net win regardless.

Toney still has an opportunity to prove he belongs on the roster and there's no denying his unrivaled abilities, yet Kansas City's coaching staff may now be out of patience.
