The Kansas City Chiefs have been in training camp for some weeks now. They are aiming to win their third straight Super Bowl, which would be the first time that has happened in NFL history.

But the foundation of the upcoming season is built during these tough summer months. The Chiefs are using these practices to find the best 53 guys for the fall and one player is falling down the depth chart and his spot is in real danger.

Chiefs News: Justyn Ross Is Getting First-Team Reps

During Thursday's practice, wide receiver Justyn Ross was seen getting first-team snaps while Toney was in with the second team.

In addition, Ross grabbed a red zone touchdown from Mahomes, further showcasing his ability to connect with his quarterback.

That doesn't spell good news for Toney, who was called out by offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. Nagy said that Toney "has to get healthy" so the team "can see what he does with reps."

Since entering the league in 2021, the Florida product has dealt with a long list of problems that include ankle, knee, and hamstring injuries. Earlier this offseason, he missed time with an ankle injury then he was forced to miss practice last week and the first preseason game with a back injury.

His absence has led to more of an opportunity for Ross to step up and he's taken full advantage. The Clemson product himself had a spinal injury that threatened his career but he found a way to get back onto the field.

As for Toney, his time in Kansas City may be coming to an end. In two seasons with the Chiefs, he's only compiled 41 receptions for 340 yards, and three touchdowns. That production in combination with his off-field troubles may be signaling a time for a breakup is on the way.
