The Chiefs reportedly brought back an old friend to help the team prior to this Sunday's Super Bowl matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Andy Reid revealed to the media on Wednesday that Kansas City invited former offensive coordinator and longtime veteran coach Eric Bieniemy in to speak to the team and spend some time with the offense ahead of the AFC Championship game, which resulted in a Chiefs victory.

Bieniemy spent nearly ten years with the organization, including five as the offensive coordinator under Reid. By all accounts, it seems the talk had a positive impact on the team.

There's been a lot of discussion about Bieniemy's impact on the offense over the last five years, notably as the unit struggled under Matt Nagy relative to recent seasons.

Kansas City's red zone offense, in particular, stumbled this year. While it's impossible to quantify exactly how much Bieniemy was missed, it's hard to ignore the offense falling from second (71.08%) in red zone TD scoring percentage last year to 19th (52.70%) under Nagy.

Bienimey was recently fired as the offensive coordinator of the Washington Commanders, who finished fifth in red zone TD scoring percentage (63.27%). Players have credited his keen eye for adjustments that led to a pair of TDs in the Super Bowl last year, and I'd love to see him back on the Chiefs' sideline next season.

We'll see what comes of his future in the NFL, but his motivational impact and love for his players are all positive qualities.

Should the Chiefs' offense break out against the 49ers and lead Kansas City to a victory, you can bet at least one player will mention Bieniemy's positive impact. Fingers crossed he dropped some wisdom ahead of the big game.
