The Chiefs not only won the battle in Sunday's 21-14 victory over the Dolphins in Germany, but they proved they've won the war as well.

Kansas City was at a crossroads in 2021 when the Chiefs traded Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, but Brett Veach's actions directly led to the exceptional defense we see today.

Make no mistake, the Chiefs were correct to trade Tyreek when they did. Sunday's win was just a poetic cherry on top.

How Chiefs Proved They Won Tyreek Hill Trade

The Chiefs flipped some of the return from the trade to ultimately receive six draft picks, selecting Trent McDuffie (1st round), Skyy Moore (2nd round), Rashee Rice (2nd round), Darian Kinnard (5th round), and Keondre Coburn (6th round).

While Coburn is now with the Broncos, Kansas City still has a fifth-round draft pick remaining to find a difference maker. Even if they don't, this trade was a massive win for the Chiefs.

Even if you ignore McDuffie's incredible season as the most impactful player on the defense or Rice's inevitable stardom, the cap flexibility Kansas City gained by not signing Hill to a $120 million deal allowed Veach to make critical additions to the offensive line and continue developing the defense.

Of course, we also had the most poetic play possible to prove Veach's defensive investments were warranted:

McDuffie forced the fumble on Hill, free agent addition Mike Edwards recovered it and lateraled to Bryan Cook, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round just eight picks after Moore, to score a game-changing TD in what could became a season-defining win for the Chiefs.

It felt obvious going into Chiefs vs. Dolphins that Kansas City emphatically won the trade, but now it's clear to everyone.

We're grateful for the memories Tyreek, but we're also grateful the Chiefs had the foresight to pull the trigger on a franchise-altering trade when they did.
