Former Chiefs TE Jody Fortson, who was beloved by fans for his prowess in the red zone, is reporteldy standing out as a legitimate weapon with his new team, the Miami Dolphins.

Fortson joined Tyreek Hill in Miami in free agency this offseason. While Jonnu Smith figures to be the lead tight end, Fortson was named the 'surprise' standout of summer workouts by ESPN beat reporter Marcel Louis-Jacques.

While he missed the last two years due to injury, Fortson has unique athleticism that makes him a reliable weapon in the red zone. Even if it's not in Kansas City, Chiefs fans are likely rooting for his success.

Former Chiefs TE Jody Fortson Shining With Miami Dolphins

At 6'4", 226 LBs, Fortson has a rare blend of size and speed that should help him in the Dolphins' high-octane offense.

Louis-Jacques notes, "He has a wide catch radius and has flashed the ability to pick up yardage after the catch. The former Kansas City Chiefs tight end has a challenging road to a meaningful workload, considering Smith and Durham Smythe's presence on this roster and the plethora of pass-catchers in the Dolphins' offense, but the early returns on Fortson say he will be able to contribute when called upon -- however frequently that might be."

Similar to the Chiefs, the Dolphins find themselves in scoring position as much as any team in the NFL. Mike McDaniel can get creative with various packages in the red zone and I'm sure he'll look at Kansas City's old film to find ways to deploy Fortson alongside Hill.

The Chiefs have their own exciting tight end of the future after taking TCU star Jared Wiley in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Fortson didn't reach his potential in Kansas City but he seems to have an exciting future nonetheless.
