The Chiefs wasted no time getting All-Pro left guard Joe Thuney back into the fray, throwing him in as the starter in his first day back from a torn pectoral muscle.

Widely regarded as one of the best offensive linemen in the sport, Thuney is a three-time All-Pro and four-time Super Bowl champion, helping form the foundation of a dominant interior group alongside Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith.

Patrick Mahomes seems thrilled to have his left guard back and all of Chiefs Kingdom should share that sentiment.

Chiefs Throw LG Joe Thuney Into Fire in First Day Back From Injury

Andy Reid and the coaching staff will obviously be careful with Thuney, though it's great to see him back near the beginning of camp as the organization tries to win its third straight Super Bowl.

Unlike Humphrey and Smith, the eighth-year veteran has two years left on his contract. He has no need to prove anything but wants to be out there working regardless, a mindset that permeates throughout the roster.

Considering the difficult opening schedule the Chiefs face, it's imperative the offensive line is comfortable as quickly as possible. Thuney is the most experienced member of the line by far, and his return provides an established leader for a group that'll either start a second-year player or a rookie at left tackle.

If Thuney's recovery lasted into the regular season, the left side of the offensive line would've been a big issue. I have faith in both Wanya Morris and Kingsley Suamataia but even still, slotting Thuney next to whomever starts helps significantly.

Welcome back, Joe. We're all as happy as Patrick is that you've returned.
