The Kansas City Chiefs have been full throttle in practice this summer as they prepare for the 2024 season.

As fans know, injuries are part of the game but no one wants a starter dealing with any kind of injury before the start of the regular season.

The Chiefs had an injury scare during Wednesday's practice when offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor was carted off the field with a shoulder injury.

Although Kansas City isn't concerned long-term about the injury, he's not expected to suit up in Saturday's preseason game against the Detroit Lions.

Chiefs News: Andy Reid Doesn’t Expect Jawaan Taylor To Play on Saturday

When speaking to reporters on Thursday, head coach Andy Reid stated he doesn't believe Taylor and Jaylen Watson are going to play in the preseason bout.

Reid added that the starters are expected to play the first half against the Lions, which means Taylor will lose some valuable reps.

Starters aren't expected to suit up in the third preseason tilt against the Chicago Bears on Aug. 22 so this will be the final tune-up before the regular season begins on Sept. 5 against the Baltimore Ravens.

The 2023 season was kind of rough for the Florida product, where he was ranked first in the league in penalties (20) with five sacks allowed. He also finished with a 51.6 overall PFF grade.

Even though the preseason isn't the end all be all, gaining reps during these summer matchups pays major dividends when the real action kicks off in September.

The most important thing is having Taylor healthy for the regular season so this isn't the worst news, but it doesn't change the fact that he will miss some valuable snaps.
