Andy Reid Reveals Surprise Plan for Starters in Second Week of Preseason
The Kansas City Chiefs are in the thick of training camp. It's been a grind over these past couple of weeks and the Chiefs are aiming to head into the regular season ready to roll.
On Saturday, Kansas City is going to host the Detroit Lions in Week 2 of the preseason. Last week, head coach Andy Reid had his starters would play one-quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars but now he revealed his players will be out there longer this week.
Chiefs News: Starters To Play First Half
When speaking to reporters after practice on Thursday, Reid stated that they plan for starters to play the entire first half against the Lions.
That may catch some fans by surprise due to the length of time but this will likely be the final in-game tune up before Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens.
This news can make some fans a bit nervous because they want their guys to be fully healthy for the regular season but getting reps in live action is crucial.
Obviously, certain starters will get more reps than others but guys like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce likely won't play the entire half. The last thing anybody wants is a critical player going down with an injury but those things are a part of the game.
Regardless of what the public thinks, Reid knows what's best for his team. The 66-year-old coach is known for keeping his cards close to his chest in regard to playing time for his guys in training camp.
Even though he stated his starters would play the entire first half, I would take that statement with a grain of salt.
