Chiefs Star Now Out of Super Bowl After Latest Injury Update
By Joe Summers
Chiefs star defensive end Charles Omenihu reportedly tore his ACL in the AFC Conference Championship win over the Ravens, ending his season despite assurances from Omenihu following the game that he was fine.
This is a huge blow to the Chiefs prior to a tough Super Bowl matchup with the 49ers, as Omenihu led the team in sacks over the second half of the season.
Here's the latest on the injury report:
Chiefs Injury News: DE Charles Omenihu Out of Super Bowl After Tearing ACL
It's hard to overstate how impressive Omenihu has been for the Chiefs, and it'll now be up to players like Mike Danna to compensate for his absence.
In 11 regular season games, Omenihu finished with 28 tackles, seven sacks, two forced fumbles and two deflected passes. He added a sack and forced fumble in the playoffs as well and was considered part of a three-headed monster on the defensive line alongside Chris Jones and George Karlaftis.
The Chiefs were the NFL's best defense during Omenihu's six-game suspension to start the season, so we know they have the ability to overcome the loss.
That being said, the job gets that much harder without Omenihu's production. Steve Spagnuolo's group has proven capable, but it's still a blow nonetheless.
