Chiefs Sign Star Veteran to Huge Contract Extension During Camp
By Joe Summers
The Kansas City Chiefs and star kicker Harrison Butker agreed to a four-year contract extension that'll make the legendary playoff performer the highest-paid kicker in the NFL.
With a deal worth $26.5 million and $17.75 million guaranteed, the Chiefs officially locked up the best kicker in the league for the prime of his career with the organization intent on creating its dynasty.
Butker's deal, negotiated by himself, surpasses both Jake Elliot (Eagles) and Justin Tucker's (Ravens) respective deals at $24 million, leaving the four-time Super Bowl champion alone atop the mountain at his position.
Chiefs News: K Harrison Butker Agrees to Four-Year Extension
This is a well-deserved extension and one forecast by rumors as recently as Monday morning. Butker's list of clutch accomplishments is second-to-none. He's one of the most important Chiefs of this dynastic era and earned a payday representing his importance.
During his seven-year career, Butker ranks second in NFL history in field-goal percentage (89.1%) with both the longest field goal in Super Bowl history (57 yards) and the most made field goals in Super Bowl history (nine).
Whether it's the clutch kick in the 13-second game against the Bills or the casual make to send the Super Bowl to overtime against the 49ers, Butker has always came through in the most important moments.
He's earned this extension, off-field controversies be darned, and it's great to see the franchise reward a player who so clearly will be remembered as a legend.
We'll see how this impacts other important negotiations for pending free agents but for now, we can celebrate Butker's accomplishments and what he means to the Kansas City Chiefs.
