Chiefs Reunite With Shocking Pass-Catcher Ahead of Week 4 Chargers Showdown
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs have their second surprise reunion ahead of Week 4 against the Chargers, as former fan-favorite tight end Jody Fortson is reportedly signing with Kansas City's practice squad.
Fortson spent the summer with the Miami Dolphins but was cut ahead of the season. Now, he'll join a deep tight end room that already features Travis Kelce, Noah Gray, and Jared Wiley with Peyton Hendershot on the practice squad as well.
It's a stunning development, though a clear sign that the organization still believes in Fortson's ability in the red zone.
Chiefs Bring Back TE Jody Fortson Ahead of Week 4
There were no reports of a potential reunion prior to Thursday's news. He spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons with Kansas City before missing all of 2023 due to an injury. During his time with the team, Fortson caught 14 passes for 155 yards and four TDs.
At six-foot-four and 235 pounds with strong athleticism, Fortson is a unique weapon. It's unlikely that he will make a large impact, he still provides some insurance at the position, especially after some of Travis Kelce's early-season struggles.
RB Keaontay Ingram also returned to the practice squad while Kareem Hunt was officially elevated to the active roster. Fortson hasn't played in a game since 2022, yet he's still only 28 years old and showed enough promise for Kansas City to bring him back.
It's great to see another former Chief come back to where it all started, and we're hoping for the best this season and beyond.
