Chiefs Reportedly Working to Re-Sign Valuable Defender
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs have been busy this offseason but still have plenty of cap space following the L'Jarius Sneed trade. While the teams haven't officially finalized the transaction, it's widely expected to happen soon.
Kansas City reportedly hopes to use some of that cap space to re-sign Mike Danna, who was tremendous this season as a rotational defensive lineman.
After the organization brought back several key veterans from last year's Super Bowl team, Danna feels like one of the final pieces of the puzzle.
Chiefs News: KC Reportedly Hopes to Re-Sign Mike Danna
Danna served as a starter while Charles Omenihu was suspended for the first six games of the season. He was fantastic given relatively low expectations, notching a career-high 6.5 sacks with 50 tackles before falling into a reserve role after Omenihu returned.
A former fifth-round pick, Danna has spent his entire career with Kansas City. You can never have too many quality pass rushers and Danna has certainly established himself as one of the better rotational defensive linemen around the NFL.
With Chris Jones, Omenihu, George Karlaftis and 2023 first-round pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah already locked into the roster, keeping Danna would mean the Chiefs bring everyone back from what was one of the league's premier defensive lines.
As the team tries to win a third straight Super Bowl, it makes sense that Danna is at the top of the priority list. The Chiefs have +650 odds to win another Lombardi. If they're able to keep the whole band together while making key additions, those odds will prove to be a steal.
