The Chiefs are reportedly zeroing in on one prospect in particular in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday night. While there's been much speculation about what wide receiver Kansas City will take given the likely impending suspension for Rashee Rice, the organization is apparently enamored with BYU offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia instead.

Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda reported on Tuesday that "multiple sources told me it’s looking more and more as though Kansas City Chiefs will select offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia with the final pick on Thursday night."

Suamataia has been previously tied to the Chiefs and even had an official visit with the team. Could Brett Veach pull a stunner by taking the talented tackle instead of a pass-catching weapon?

Chiefs Reportedly Planning to Draft BYU OT Kingsley Suamataia

As Pauline explains, "I was privy to the fact that Suamataia had a great visit with the Chiefs last month and impressed the organization during his time at the facility."

Betting odds still indicate the team will draft a receiver and Pauline notes it's possible that a player unexpectedly falls to No. 32. That being said, it makes sense for Kansas City to take the BYU tackle given the relative depth at wide receiver overall. In my second mock draft, I took Suamataia in the first round and Florida WR Ricky Pearsall in the second, for example.

The 6'5", 326 LB cousin of Lions' tackle Penei Sewell, Suamataia has experience at both right and left tackle. He gave up no sacks in 632 snaps on the right side in 2022, then moved to the left in 2023 and surrendered only two in 644 snaps.

A versatile, extremely athletic player, Suamataia represents the sort of player that Andy Reid covets on the offensive line. His BYU connection doesn't hurt and he's adept at both run and pass blocking.

We'll see what happens on Thursday night, but it's sounding more and more likely that Suamataia will soon be the newest member of your Kansas City Chiefs.
