Chiefs Receive Huge Update on Several Injured Players
By Jovan Alford
The Kansas City Chiefs saw multiple players return to training camp on Sunday after missing the last few practices due to injury. According to Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead Pride, cornerbacks Jaylen Watson and Nazeeh Johnson and wide receiver Justin Watson were on the practice field.
Kansas City is excited to have Jaylen Watson and Johnson back on the field as they compete for the CB2 job this summer with Joshua Williams. Watson returned earlier this week but was already seen working with the second-team defense on Sunday, per Sweeney.
Meanwhile, Johnson reportedly tweaked his knee at practice last week, forcing him to miss multiple practices. The Chiefs held their collective breaths as it was the same knee that Johnson suffered a torn ACL last summer.
However, the fact that Johnson is back on the field in helmets-only practice is a good sign of his availability going forward.
Finally, the Chiefs were worried about Justin Watson’s injury as the former Penn standout left on a cart with Nazeeh Johnson. Watson appeared to suffer a bad lower leg injury, which didn’t look good on video as his left leg was caught under him.
But it was later revealed that the 28-year-old wide receiver suffered a minor foot injury, which was good news for Watson and the Chiefs. Kansas City will be looking for Watson to build off what he did last season with Patrick Mahomes this coming season.
Last season, the former fifth-round pick had his best year as a pro, recording 27 receptions (53 targets) for 460 yards and three touchdowns. Watson became one of Mahomes’ favorite targets and could be the Chiefs’ WR3/WR4 this season depending on what happens with second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice.
