Chiefs Poach Veteran Defender From NFC Rival Ahead of Week 1
The 2024 NFL regular season is finally close to kicking off! After eight long months, we will be seeing some NFL action taking place. The Kansas City Chiefs open up on the season on Sept. 5 against the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium.
But before we could get there, teams had to trim the roster down from 90 players to just 53. That saw many players get released and forced to find homes elsewhere.
The Chiefs were gauging the open market and decided to add a defender who played for an NFC rival.
Kansas City News: Chiefs Adding Marlon Tuipulotu to Practice Squad
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Chiefs are signing defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu to the practice squad.
Tuipulotu was selected in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles and was a solid depth piece for them.
In 28 games over the last three seasons, Tuipulotu recorded 43 total tackles, four tackles for loss, four QB hits, and three sacks. The Chiefs are looking to add more depth along the interior of the defensive line and the 25-year-old is someone who may fit that role in 2024.
The Chiefs are looking to secure their third straight Super Bowl title and they know everyone will be giving them their best shot. So adding a player who has playoff experience and was able to contribute to that team is certainly appealing.
It also doesn't hurt when you're swooping up a player from a rival as well.
