Chiefs Now Likely to Be Without Playmaker in Week 2
The Kansas City Chiefs began the 2024 season in style. They knocked off the Baltimore Ravens 27-20 and kicked off the season with a 1-0 record.
The attention shifts to the Cincinnati Bengals in a Week 2 collision at Arrowhead Stadium. But it appears that the Chiefs will be without Marquise "Hollywood" Brown again on Sunday.
Chiefs News: Marquise Brown Likely Out for Week 2
Adam Teicher of ESPN stated that head coach Andy Reid didn't officially rule out Brown, but the odds of him suiting up are slim. Brown has been out since the Aug. 10 preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In that contest, he suffered a sternoclavicular injury that had an estimated recovery timeline of four-to-six weeks. That has kept the Oklahoma product from getting back on the field and will likely keep him out for an additional week.
Reid rarely plays guys who haven't had a week of practice when returning from injury. Brown won't be the exception.
One thing Kansas City has shown is they can still be productive without a long list of difference makers but this season will be different.
In Week 1, Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy both finished with 45-plus receiving yards. They also have Travis Kelce, who is one of the best tight ends in the history of the NFL.
The Chiefs will find a way to weather the storm, but they will need Brown eventually. He's still an electric deep threat, averaging 11.6 yards per reception in his career. Once he's healthy enough, he'll be back on the field but that time likely won't be on Sunday.
