The 2024 NFL Draft is finally here! After weeks of speculation and excitement, we'll soon know who the newest member is of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Peter Schrager of NFL.com, who is well-known for his support of the Chiefs, released his final mock draft Thursday morning and it features a surprising trade-up for Kansas City, moving up to pick No. 19 to find their cornerstone tackle of the future.

Schrager previously had the Chiefs taking WR Ja'Lynn Polk out of Washington as potential Rashee Rice insurance. Now, he's in agreement with the shift in betting odds that forecast Brett Veach finding an offensive lineman instead.

Chiefs Trade Up for LT Amarius Mims in Final Peter Schrager Mock Draft

As Schrager explains, "Kansas City moves all the way up to No. 19 and lands one of the last remaining 'top' tackles. The 6-foot-8, 340-pounder from Georgia could have the biggest upside of any player at his position in this year's class. The Rams are a team I’d circle as a potential trade-back team on Thursday night, and, if I’m being honest, a multiple-time trade-back team. In this trade, Los Angeles moves down to the end of Round 1, picking up Kansas City's second- and fourth-round picks in the process."

Mims would be a massive win for Brett Veach and his staff. He's a behemoth on the line with a massive frame, high energy and exceptional agility. His explosiveness and flexibility give him an opportunity to start from day one, while his long-term potential makes him a theoretical cornerstone for the next decade.

The questions about Mims center around two issues. First, he's got limited tape due to injuries he suffered at Georgia. Second, he's primarily played as a right tackle, so there's a legitimate concern he may not be fit for left tackle. That could mean sliding Jawaan Taylor to the left side, or Veach and Andy Reid could believe in their ability to teach Mims left tackle.

It'd be a swing for the fences, but an exciting one nonetheless. We'll see what happens tonight, though I expect the Chiefs to draft an offensive lineman either way.
