Chiefs Get Encouraging Clyde Edwards-Helaire Injury News Before Week 4 Game
By Jovan Alford
The Kansas City Chiefs have had to reshuffle their backfield over the last couple of weeks due to the devastating injury of Isiah Pacheco. With Pacheco going down, Kansas City brought back veteran Kareem Hunt, signing him to the practice squad on Sept. 17.
Hunt, rookie Carson Steele, and Samaje Perine should be a formidable running back room until Pacheco returns from injury. That said, the Chiefs’ backfield could be getting another boost as soon as next week based on the latest reporting surrounding Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Chiefs News: Clyde-Edwards Helaire Set To Return From NFI List
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the veteran running back is set to return from the non-football illness list this week. Edwards-Helaire teased his potential return on social media last week, which caught the attention of Chiefs fans.
The former first-round pick was placed on the NFI list during training camp after Edwards-Helaire revealed that he’s been dealing with PTSD, which stemmed from an incident in 2018 at LSU.
Edwards-Helaire expressed his gratitude towards the Chiefs’ organization, who have helped him through his PTSD when speaking with reporters this summer. The Chiefs likely can’t wait to see the former LSU standout back on the practice field as they know what he brings to the table as a person and player.
The 25-year-old running back is coming off a down 2023 season, where he posted 411 yards from scrimmage and two total touchdowns on 87 touches.
With that in mind, Edwards-Helaire has a chance to rewrite his story for the 2024 season in a backfield that could use some depth. The Chiefs have done an adequate job thus far without Pacheco.
That said, no one has stood out yet, opening up potential opportunities for Edwards-Helaire. At the same time, with the veteran running back being activated off the NFI list, the Chiefs will likely have to make a roster move after Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
