Chargers Seemingly Ready to Make Massive Reach at No. 5 Overall
The NFL Draft is finally here football fans! It's been a rigorous couple of months filled with workouts, pre-draft meetings, and a bunch of rumors.
With Round 1 taking place at 8 p.m. ET, 32 prospects will be taken off the board. Many final mock drafts have been released this morning and Peter Schrager dropped his.
In his final mock, he has the Los Angeles Chargers taking a massive reach with their fifth overall selection.
Kansas City News: Peter Schrager Has the Chargers Nabbing JC Latham With The Fifth Pick
Schrager has the Los Chargers Chargers selecting Alabama tackle JC Latham. Latham has skyrocketed up draft boards over the past few days and the tea leaves believe he's the Chargers guy at No. 5.
The Wisconsin native is arguably one of the strongest players in the draft and can bulldoze players in the run game. Despite his brute strength, Latham is an undisciplined player who struggles with penalties (18 over two seasons).
He can also be unbalanced in pass protection. Another reason this would be a shocking move is the need for more explosiveness in the aerial attack.
Los Angeles released Mike Williams and traded away Keenan Allen. That leaves the wide receiver room with a lot to be desired. The Chargers currently have Derius Davis, Simi Fehoko, Quentin Johnston, and Joshua Palmer at WR.
With prospects like Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze at receiver, it would be shocking to see the Chargers pass on someone like that.
If they do decide to pick Latham at No. 5, Jim Harbaugh will be making his first major mistake as the lead man in Los Angeles.
That would certainly put a smile on the faces of Kansas City Chiefs fans.
