Just like the Kansas City Chiefs, their rivals are also desperately trying to cut down their roster to 53 players before Tuesday's 4 pm deadline. In the next 24 hours, there will be plenty of transactions that will result in players of interest becoming available. One of those players for the Chiefs could come from the Denver Broncos.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Broncos are likely to move on from veteran running back Samaje Perine. The 28-year-old is reportedly not going to be on the initial 53-man roster in Denver but the team is trying to decide on the manner of his departure. This presents an intriguing opportunity for the Chiefs who could use another rusher in the rotation.

NFL Rumors: Broncos to Move On From RB Samaje Perine

This is an unexpected development for Perine and the Broncos. This means that he has lost the competition to Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime, which is not a good sign for where Perine is as a player right now.

At the same time, he could bring a different type of playmaking to the Chiefs offense. Perine rushed for 238 yards in 53 attempts last year but was a huge factor in the passing game, catching 50 passes for 455 yards. He was very effective on third downs as a pass catcher and pass blocker and made plenty of big plays in key two-minute drive situations. In the end, he combined for a total of 37 first downs for Denver last year.

The reporting suggests that the Broncos are looking for trades for Perine instead of releasing him before the roster cutdown deadline. A potential trade between Kansas City and Denver may seem unlikely but the Broncos would presumably accept a Chiefs offer if it were the best package. Whether the Chiefs go that route or start the season with the current RB room remains to be seen.
