Earlier in the offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs gave head coach Andy Reid a five-year contract extension that made him the highest-paid coach not only in the NFL but also across all US sports leagues. The $100 million deal keeps Reid in Kansas City until after the 2029 NFL season when he will be 71 years old.

This clearly signals that Reid doesn't have too many years left as an NFL head coach. He is already the oldest active coach in the league after Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll left their teams this past spring. When asked about this, Reid gave a vague response. Acknowledging the fact that he is getting older, the three-time Super Bowl champ merely said "we'll see how all that goes" referring to his five-year deal.

Chiefs News: Andy Reid Murky About His NFL Future

If Reid finishes out his contract with the Chiefs, that would already make him one of the oldest NFL coaches ever. There have only been four head coaches over the age of 72 in league history: Pete Carroll, Marv Levy, George Halas, and Romeo Crennel. If Reid were to sign another extension, he would join this highly-accomplished group.

This will likely depend on how the next couple of seasons in Kansas City go. Reid is on his way to making his claim to be the greatest NFL coach ever if he continues his Chiefs dominance. He is fourth all-time in career wins, 70 away from legendary Don Shula. If he is close to breaking that record once he is due for an extension, one can see him go for it.

He is also third all-time in Super Bowl appearances with five, and Super Bowl wins with three. Bill Belichick leads on both fronts with nine and six, respectively. Reid has a chance of catching him over the next five years if all goes well. With Patrick Mahomes under center, it's hard not to dream about it.
