Andy Reid Shares Big Jawaan Taylor Injury Update Ahead of Week 1
By Joe Summers
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to the media on Monday and shared a big update on Jawaan Taylor's unfortunate injury.
While there was significant initial concern when Kansas City's right tackle was carted off during practice, Reid expects Taylor to play in Week 1 against the Ravens. Considering Baltimore led the NFL in sacks in 2023 (60) and the Chiefs are starting a rookie at left tackle, this is a major update.
For the organization to take control of the AFC with two tough games to start the campaign, Taylor needs to be on the field.
Chiefs News: Andy Reid Expects Jawaan Taylor to Play Week 1
The veteran tackle won't play in Thursday's preseason finale yet his health remains one of the most important storylines outside of the impending roster cut day.
Taylor has the third-largest cap hit on the roster in 2024 at just under $25 million. He endured an underwhelming 2023 season filled with penalties, though still flashed the talent that made him such a marquee acquisition in the previous offseason.
There was never any real concern that Chris Jones or Joe Thuney would miss Week 1. It's good to see they're both expected to play, and we all already saw how Jones could perform despite missing an entire training camp.
The Chiefs are stuck with Taylor for the next two seasons barring a trade based on his cap. He's one of the highest-paid offensive linemen in the NFL, and Kansas City needs him on the field to prove that value. This is welcome news, yet we still need to see him deliver on his outsized contract to prevent an issue on the right side.
