Third-year Chiefs WR Skyy Moore has struggled throughout the summer as he battles for a roster spot, though head coach Andy Reid praised the much-maligned wideout in comments to the media on Monday.

Moore had the misfortune of throwing an interception on a kick return during practice, but Reid was encouraged by the progress the 2022 second-round pick is making.

He is still a possible cut candidate at a suddenly crowded position. However, Moore might be performing better than we've surmised from the outside looking in.

Andy Reid Praises WR Skyy Moore Despite Struggles

"He’s a few years into this thing now," Reid explained. "Just cut loose and play through it. Go play, and he’s doing a nice job with that. He’s actually playing good football right now."

Those comments are a step in the right direction but far from guarantee Moore a roster spot. He has only 43 catches for 494 yards and one TD in two years with that slow start magnified by how effective Rashee Rice was so quickly in 2023 as a rookie.

Separation was Moore's calling card in college, though that skill hasn't translated yet to the professional level. He's not adept at making contested catches or a speedster, so it's been hard to make an impact as he develops to the NFL.

Patrick Mahomes had just a 51.3 passer rating when targeting Moore in 2022 and a 50.8 mark in 2023, numbers that should be unfathomable with the three-time Super Bowl MVP calling the shots.

My guess is that Moore will not make the final roster barring an injury. The organization seems to favor Kadarius Toney and Nikko Remigio has impressed as well, leaving Moore on the outside looking in unless he starts shining.

There's still time. Reid seems to believe in Moore but the 23-year-old wideout is running out of time to prove his coach right.
