The Kansas City Chiefs and the other 31 NFL teams made several cuts to their training camp rosters ahead of the 4 pm ET deadline on Tuesday. Kansas City had to make multiple tough roster decisions involving a few fan favorites, including Louis Rees-Zammit.

The rugby star and NFL running back was one of the more intriguing players to watch during training camp as fans wanted to see if he could make the 53-man roster. Sadly, Rees-Zammit was one of the Chiefs’ final cuts.

However, the 23-year-old running back will be getting another chance to prove himself in the NFL, but it won’t be with Kansas City.

According to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz, Rees-Zammit is close to signing a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Chiefs fans would’ve loved to see the former rugby star stay in Kansas City and continue to learn under head coach Andy Reid.

Rees-Zammit didn’t make a ton of noise in the preseason for Kansas City as he only had 22 yards on six carries and one reception for three yards. However, the fact that he stuck with the club through training camp and preseason is a testament to his determination and skill.

The 23-year-old joined the NFL’s International Pathway Program in January and signed a contract with the Chiefs in the offseason.

Nonetheless, it’ll be interesting to see if the rugby standout can stick with the Jaguars’ practice squad and get promoted to the active roster during the regular season. Kansas City fans will watch from afar to see if Rees-Zammit can continue to live out his NFL dream.
