AFC Contender Showing Interest in Kadarius Toney After Chiefs Release
By Joe Summers
Former Chiefs WR Kadarius Toney is still looking for a new team after being released by Kansas City, and he's now landed his second official tryout as Week 1 of the 2024-25 season gets underway.
Toney previously worked out with the Seattle Seahawks. On Friday, he had an opportunity with the Cleveland Browns, a team believed to be a true contender in a loaded AFC.
The Browns may not be legitimate Super Bowl threats, though they've got a great chance to make the playoffs with one of the NFL's best rosters outside of the quarterback position.
Kadarius Toney Lands Tryout With Cleveland Browns
Cleveland has an interesting wide receiver room. Amari Cooper is firmly established at the top of the depth chart with newly-acquired Jerry Jeudy serving as the second option. After those two, there are a lot of question marks.
Elijah Moore, Cedric Tillman, and Jaelon Darden are on the depth chart, though none of these players have done enough to cement their respective places on the offense. Theoretically, the Browns represent an excellent landing spot for Toney as he tries to rebuild his value.
There wasn't enough room for Toney on the Chiefs' roster any longer after the additions of Hollywood Brown, Xavier Worthy and JuJu Smith-Schuster in the offseason. He's got enough talent to stay in the league though, and it wouldn't surprise anyone if he wound up making a big impact down the line.
He hasn't been signed and we don't yet know how the workout went for Toney. Nonetheless, teams' willingness to give him a shot indicates he'll get a new contract sooner than later.
