4 Former Chiefs Who Still Can't find a Job in 2024 Free Agency

Despite winning a Super Bowl last year, several of the Chiefs' free agents are struggling to find a job. Here are four former Kansas City players who still can't find employment through free agency.

3. QB Blaine Gabbert

After playing games with five different franchises across 11 seasons, Blaine Gabbert joined the Chiefs on a one-year deal to serve as Mahomes' backup. It's a gig that most quarterbacks would love since Mahomes rarely misses time while playing in Kansas City puts any player in a good spot to win a Super Bowl.

As expected, Gabbert barely saw any action in 2023, playing in relief in a 41-10 blowout win over the Chicago Bears in Week 3 before starting against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 18. Unfortunately, the 34-year-old veteran couldn't make the most of his opportunities, completing only 51.4% of passes for 185 yards, three interceptions without a TD, and a 31.2 passer rating.

Teams try to roster backup QBs that they feel confident about putting in a game should the starter struggle or go down with an injury. Gabbert proved last season that he's anything but that. The former 2010 first-rounder has never been that great under center in general and his play will only further as he nears his 35th birthday in October.

With names like Carson Wentz and Ryan Tannehill still sitting in free agency while the NFL Draft is right around the corner, it could be a long time before Gabbert finds out his next destination.
