4 Former Chiefs Who Still Can't find a Job in 2024 Free Agency
2. WR Mecole Hardman
Valdes-Scantling isn't the only former Chiefs receiver who's struggling to find an opportunity.
Mecole Hardman is also having issues finding a new team after winning three Super Bowl rings in Kansas City. Of course, his lackluster play is a key factor in his still being unsigned. Splitting the 2023 campaign between the Chiefs and New York Jets, Hardman only managed to record 15 receptions and 124 yards without a touchdown in 11 games before posting a 5-62-1 stat line in the postseason.
It's frustrating because Hardman has shown a lot of potential over the years, but he just can't do it consistently. He'll follow up a brilliant play with a bone-headed error, proven by his three dropped passes last year. He also had a 41.0 passer rating when targeted, which is only slightly better than if Mahomes threw the ball into the ground all season long (39.6).
Just like MVS, the fact that Hardman can't consistently produce with Mahomes is bound to raise red flags for teams looking for WR help. He's only 26 years old and likely has room for improvement, but he needs to prove that he can be reliable if he wants a lengthy NFL career.
If he can't convince a team that he can make those improvements, Hardman might have even more waiting to do.
