Wednesday was a big day for the Kansas City Chiefs fanbase as it marked the beginning of the franchise's 2024 NFL training camp. Over five months following the latest Super Bowl win, Chiefs fans finally got a glimpse at next year's roster as Andy Reid & Co. look to become the first three-peat champions in league history.

The beginning of training camp also means that pressure is high for this year's rookie class. While names like Xavier Worthy and Kingsley Suamataia are locks to make the 53-man roster, other must put in more work to make the cut. With that being said, it's always possible that some first-year players exceed expectations to force their way into the mix.

Keeping that in mind, here are three surprise rookies who could crack the Chiefs' 53-man roster.

1. Kyle Sheets, WR

The Chiefs made a slew of moves to open training camp, including the signing of wide receiver Kyle Sheets. The former Slippery Rock University was waived by the New Orleans Saints after going undrafted in April, allowing him to receive a tryout with the Chiefs shortly after.

Even though expectations are low for the 6-foot-4, 220-pound playmaker, it appears as if Sheets is already impressing the Kansas City players and staff. He was already hanging out with Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs QBs on Wednesday and event made an "impressive" catch during practice, per team insider Matt McCullen.

Even though the majority of the Chiefs' WR room is set, there's still an opportunity for Sheets to crack the roster. The WR6 spot is still up for the taking as Kadarius Toney, Skyy Moore, and Justyn Ross haven't exactly done enough to secure their outlook with the team. If Sheets can outperform the likes of Cornell Powell, Montrell Washington, and Nikko Remigio, he could surprise a lot of people.

It'll be interesting to see what Sheets' potential is at the NFL level. The Springboro, PA native was a scoring machine in his final year the Rock, hauling in a career-high 76 receptions for 1,186 yards and 17 touchdowns. He likely won't reach similar heights as a pro, however, it's clear that he might have what it takes to make an impact.
