3 Recently Cut Free Agents the Chiefs Must Sign
The dust is settling from initial roster cuts around the league, which means that teams like the Kansas City Chiefs have already scoured the waiver wire and free agency for ways to upgrade and improve the roster.
And for a general manager in the NFL, the tinkering never stops.
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach is typically one of the most active in the league when it comes to seeking out risk-reward options in free agency or via trade, and there are certainly a lot of players who just got cut who will interest Veach and his head coach, Andy Reid.
The Chiefs already added players like veteran running back Samaje Perine, former fourth-round quarterback Bailey Zappe, and Cowboys 2023 sixth-round pick Eric Scott Jr. Who else could Veach and Reid target to upgrade this roster even further?
1. Martavis Bryant, Wide Receiver
The return of Martavis Bryant to an NFL field -- even if it was just in the preseason -- was certainly unexpected. Bryant was once one of the league's most exciting young receivers as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but suspensions from the league and consistently finding himself in trouble derailed what could have been an otherwise very promising career.
Bryant resurfaced this year with the Washington Commanders and showed some decent things in the preseason. Given the fact that the Chiefs like to take on this type of player -- a discarded talent with some sort of pedigree, whether NFL Draft or otherwise -- and the fact that there is flexibility with the practice squad, Bryant is one player who could make sense for the Chiefs to kick the tires on.
The Commanders already broke the ice here, so there's a little bit less pressure on a team like Kansas City, and Bryant physically still looks the part.
