3 Last-Minute Signings the Chiefs Can Make at Start of Training Camp

Since 2019, the Kansas City Chiefs have won three Super Bowls. That includes winning in 2022 and 2023. Now looking to make history as the first team to three-peat in the NFL, the Chiefs already began training camp with that goal in mind.

While they won it all last year, they had one of their weakest offensive rosters in years. Patrick Mahomes had to do the heavy lifting with little help at wideout beyond Rashee Rice. That won't be the case this year as Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy join Rice.

As good as those additions were, the Chiefs could improve their chances of making history by signing these three free agents as camp kicks off.

3. David Bakhtiari, Offensive Tackle

The Chiefs got Patrick Mahomes help at receiver this offseason but they didn't improve his pass protection. Donovan Smith wasn't re-signed which means Wanya Morris is set to be the starter on the left side. A third-round pick from Oklahoma, Morris played 339 snaps on offense as a rookie and wasn't graded high by Pro Football Focus — although he struggled in run blocking more than pass protection according to them.

They did use a second-round pick on Kingsley Suamataia from BYU and perhaps he's the starter of the future but he has yet to take a snap in the NFL. With so much at stake this season, they should be willing to roll the dice on someone with more upside such as David Bakhtiari.

One of the best top tackles in the game when healthy, Bakhtiari has struggled with durability as of late. That's the only reason the Green Bay Packers moved on from him this offseason and the only reason he has yet to sign. Bakhtiari says he's ready to go and wants to play for at least a couple more years. The Chiefs could gamble here and the worst-case scenario is they get a veteran mentor for their young tackles but the best-case scenario is they improve vastly on the O-line.
