3 Chiefs Who Could Be Traded During NFL Draft
3. QB Ian Book
One Chief in jeopardy of getting traded is someone who's yet to play a game in a Chiefs jersey.
Back in January, Kansas City signed quarterback Ian Book to a futures contract. Book, 26, was drafted 133rd by the New Orleans Saints in 2021 but hasn't been able to carve out a role for himself anywhere. He also experienced brief stints in Philadelphia and New England before being released by the Patriots in September.
But just because the Chiefs recently signed Book doesn't mean his future in Kansas City is safe. He was mainly brought in to provide backup QB depth, but that isn't needed anymore now that the Chiefs brought in veteran gunslinger Carson Wentz on a one-year deal.
If Book had shown any signs of promise, I'd be open to keeping him, but that hasn't been the case. The former Notre Dame QB has only started one game in the last three seasons, completing 12-of-20 passes (60.0%) for 135 yards without a touchdown while registering two interceptions and a 40.6 passer rating. While those statistics aren't impressive, he's still in his mid-20s and there's always a chance that a QB-hungry team could be interested.
Even if it's only for a late-round selection, the Chiefs should be open to moving Book. They already have Wentz and can always add another arm with more promise either through the draft or free agency.
