12 Chiefs Who Won't Return For Super Bowl Champs in 2024
8. TE Blake Bell
After spending four of the last five seasons with the Chiefs, Blake Bell's time in Kansas City could be over.
With Travis Kelce being Mahomes' go-to tight end, Bell has handled more of a block role since returning to the franchise in 2021. Unfortunately, his blocking has only gotten worse with each passing season, highlighted by the chart below.
Year | Pass-Block Grade | Run-Block Grade |
---|---|---|
2023 | 45.4 | 53.4 |
2022 | 57.4 | 69.3 |
2021 | 70.8 | 70.6 |
Bell's blocking shortcomings would've been more digestible if he wasn't a black hole in the passing game. He was targeted nine times in 2023 but only converted five targets into catches for 26 yards and a touchdown. His 58.3 passer grade when targeted was a new career low.
Considering how the Houston Texans' Case Keenum had a 61.1 passer rating, it's easy to see how Bell isn't exactly a positive on offense.
With Bell turning 33 in August, I don't have a ton of faith in a turnaround season at this stage of his career. He is who he is at this point and likely won't improve. Fortunately, the Chiefs already have Kelce and Noah Gray under contract in 2024, meaning that re-signing Bell shouldn't be a priority whatsoever.
