Patrick Mahomes spoke to the media on Tuesday and offered a key piece of clarification on the ankle injury he sustained during Sunday's win over the Browns.

He told reporters that this injury, which is on his right ankle, is responding better than the left ankle sprain he suffered against the Jaguars in the playoffs two years ago. Considering Mahomes didn't miss any time and led the team to a Super Bowl win, that's a major update at this point in the season.

It's not yet clear whether or not Mahomes will play against the Texans, but it's sounding increasingly likely as we go throughout the week.

Patrick Mahomes Says This Injury Responding Better Than Previous One

Since we're in the final days of the regular season, keeping Mahomes upright is obviously the most important goal for the team. The left tackle position has been a mess, so it's easy to imagine one of these fearsome defensive lines causing further stress.

If Mahomes does play, fans should expect an emphasis on quick passes and heavy reliance on the rushing attack. The Texans, Steelers, and Broncos all have strong defensive fronts, meaning the performance of the offensive line could determine whether or not Mahomes' ankle ailment gets worse.

Andy Reid's Tuesday comments suggest the Chiefs are at least going to give Mahomes a shot to suit up. After a slow start to the year relative to his standards, he's turned things up a notch in recent weeks to once again look like the NFL's best player.

He hasn't thrown an interception since losing the Bills, tossing seven TDs in that stretch despite being harassed by defensive linemen and taking 13 sacks in four games. Unless the Chiefs' line play improves, fans will justifiably be anxious with every Mahomes pass attempt.

Reinforcements are on the way and it sounds like Hollywood Brown could make his season debut as soon as this week. Hopefully, Mahomes' ankle will be healthy enough to actually take advantage of the downfield threat. Based on these comments, it sounds like things are trending in the right direction.
