The Kansas City Chiefs are set to face the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship on Sunday night. Each time these two franchises meet whether it's in the regular season or the playoffs it's an instant classic.

The most memorable game these two teams played was in the 2022 divisional round, which saw the Chiefs drive down the field with 13 seconds left and kick a field goal to tie the game. Kansas City would ultimately win that game with a touchdown on the first drive in overtime.

Although that was an amazing part of this rivalry, a new chapter will be written on Sunday. On Wednesday, Patrick Mahomes spoke to the media on the rivalry with the Bills. According to Nate Taylor of The Athletic, Mahomes said, They have great players at every level on both sides of the ball. That usually ends with split (wins). If you look at the games, every game is close." He added, "It comes with playing in the playoffs. ... We know it's going to take our best."

Patrick Mahomes Knows How to Beat Bills in AFC Title Game

Nothing in Mahomes' assessment of this matchup is incorrect. As mentioned above, each time these two teams play the game is a closely fought contest. That is why it is important for Kansas City's defense to play better than they did in Week 11.

In that game, Buffalo went 9/15 (60%) on third down, if that happens again the Chiefs season will be over. That said, last week against the Houston Texans Kansas City's defense came to play. During that game, the Chiefs sacked C.J. Stroud eight times but were only slightly better on third down. Allowing Houston to go 10/17 (58%).

Thankfully, the Texans were unable to convert those conversions into points. However, if Kansas City allows the Bills to be that successful on third down again Sunday it will be a problem.

On the other hand, the Chiefs offense can't play as poorly as it did in Week 11. In nine offensive possessions, Kansas City punted four times and threw two interceptions. Performing like that again on Sunday will definitely lead to another loss.

Nevertheless, it seems like the team understands all of this and is ready for another heavyweight battle.
