New Chiefs WR Trade Rumors Has Fans Disgusted

Kansas City Chiefs fans are hoping for the team to add a wide receiver ahead of the NFL trade deadline. However, if there is a deal to be had, it likely won't be a big one.

The NFL trade market received quite a shake-up last week when the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills acquired superstar wideouts Davante Adams and Amari Cooper, respectively. With the Jets and Bills gearing up for a potential Super Bowl run, Kansas City Chiefs fans were left wondering if general manager Brett Veach will also add a playmaker to improve the team's championship outlook.

The Chiefs desperately need some wide receiver reinforcements at the moment. After likely losing wideouts Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice for the season, veteran WR JuJu Smith-Schuster left Sunday's 28-18 victory over the San Francisco 49ers with a hamstring injury and has already been ruled out of Week 8.

With the trade deadline looming, GM Veach could have various paths to go down for WR help. Having said that, any potential deal likely won't be on the level of the Adams/Cooper blockbusters.

Adam Schefter: Chiefs Unlikely to Make 'Splashy' Deadline Trade

NFL insider Adam Schefter appeared on Monday's edition of "The Pat McAfee Show" to discuss the Chiefs potentially adding a wide receiver before the deadline.

"I think that [the Chiefs] are going to be checking around and asking for wide receivers," Schefter told McAfee. "It wouldn't be a surprise if they made a move. I don't know if it's going to be a big splashy move."

After the Bills and Jets pulled off their blockbuster trades, it's a bit disappointing to learn that the Chiefs won't venture down a similar route. Instead, Schefter sees Veach targeted wideouts who are already familiar with the organization and, more importantly, quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

"I think in the perfect world if someone like a Demarcus Robinson that knows the system and knows the quarterback that would fit there... [The Chiefs] could use a little bit of help at the wide receiver position."

In any normal season, Chiefs fans likely wouldn't mind a more conservative approach to addressing the WR room. However, patience is a lot thinner this time around now that Brown, Rice, and Smith-Schuster are sidelined for the foreseeable future. Finding help is even more necessary when you consider how names like Mecole Hardman and Skyy Moore have been largely invisible thus far.

Schefter lists Tennessee Titans WR DeAndre Hopkins as a potential trade candidate who the Chiefs could go after. Even though the seven-time 1,000-yard receiver's best days are in the rearview, he'd still provide an upgrade over Kansas City's current situation.

With the trade deadline approaching on Nov. 5, the Chiefs have about two weeks to decide if they want to bring in another playmaker, big name or not. It's possible that they could give opportunities to practice squad WRs this weekend before circling back to the trade market next week.

Either way, something has to be done to address the receiver room soon if winning a third straight Super Bowl is still the main goal. For now, the Chiefs are still FanDuel Sportsbook's +450 favorite to hoist the Lombardi Trophy as they head into their Week 8 tilt against the Las Vegas Raiders.
