The Kansas City Chiefs fell short of securing their third straight Super Bowl title. The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Chiefs 40-22. This was the worst game that Kansas City played all season by far.
The Chiefs roster needs some fine-tuning over the next couple of months to make another run next season.
Kansas City will use the 2025 NFL Draft as an avenue to find some upgrades on the roster. The first-round draft begins on April 24, and the Chiefs own the 31st overall pick.
They could go in multiple different directions with that selection, and we'll discuss three players who may be draft targets in the first round.
1. Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio State
The Chiefs need some reinforcements along the offensive line, especially at left tackle. This season, Kansas City gave up 41 sacks and it was displayed in the Super Bowl.
Patrick Mahomes was sacked six times in the loss to the Eagles and was pressured on 53.3% of his dropbacks outside of garbage time. That can't be the case going forward.
The Chiefs drafted Kingsley Suamataia in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft and signed D.J. Humphries in November to bolster the trenches. That didn't pan out, as they kicked Joe Thuney to left tackle.
The need for stability is clear, and Ohio State's Josh Simmons could be a good option for Kansas City. Simmons is a fluid mover in space with terrific hands. He has great play strength and has the speed to climb to the second level with no problem. Simmons also stays patient in pass protection.
#OhioState OT Josh Simmons. 6’5, 311.

Excellent fluidity. Natural athlete. Great punch timing + hand placement. Plus in the 2nd level/screen game. ++ Stunt recognition.

Simmons suffered a torn patellar tendon in his knee in October that ended his season but is expected to be ready for training camp.
Prior to going down, Simmons was regarded as one of the best tackle prospects in this class. He looks very smooth and effortless getting out of his stance and would give the Chiefs a high-upside tackle.
