The Kansas City Chiefs' loss in Super Bowl LIX was disappointing as they fell to the Philadelphia Eagles 40-22 on Sunday night. Many felt like the Chiefs were ready to cement themselves as a true dynasty with the chance to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls. But the Eagles used a dominant performance from their defensive line and an MVP performance by Jalen Hurts to steal the Lombardi Trophy.
The loss means that Chiefs fans can’t be feeling great on Monday morning but the rest of America may disagree. A country that was sick of the Chiefs' run of dominance was in a celebratory mood as Kansas City got crushed on Sunday night and it caught the attention of one of Kansas City’s biggest rivals, who took a cheap shot on social media.
Ja’Marr Chase’s Cheap Shot on Social Media Adds Insult to Chiefs Super Bowl Loss
Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase couldn’t help himself and took to social media to revel in the Chiefs' loss. The popular meme shows a person with a Chiefs logo getting punched by someone with an Eagles logo while a Bengals logo is recording it in the background.

Again, this is the way most of America felt about the Chiefs' loss in the Super Bowl. But Chase’s post comes off as tone-deaf and makes him look like a total sore loser.
Chase had a tremendous individual season, becoming the first receiver since Cooper Kupp in 2021 to win the NFL’s Triple Crown for receiving. Although he led the league with 127 catches, 1,708 yards and 17 touchdowns, his monster year didn’t translate to team success as the Bengals finished 9-8 and missed the playoffs.
Of course, there’s a rivalry at play as Chase once referred to Arrowhead Stadium as “Burrowhead” in response to the Bengals win in the 2021 AFC Championship Game but that was three years ago. It could also be due to the fact that the Bengals needed the Chiefs to defeat the Denver Broncos in Week 18 to get into the playoffs but wisely rested their starters in a 38-0 loss.
It could also be a source of his own frustration. An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty by Chase caused the Bengals to lose a Week 2 game to the Chiefs and Cincinnati lost seven one-score games on the way to their disappointing season. If one of those games goes the other way, Chase may have had a chance to do something about the Chiefs stranglehold on the AFC. Instead, he’s sitting on his couch firing off memes on social media.
Either way, Chase is having a case of sour grapes and watching the Chiefs get demolished in the Super Bowl may be the only way he can cope with a lost season.
