The Kansas City Chiefs have officially parted ways with veteran pass rusher Mike Danna, after the Buffalo Bills signed the defender. It doesn't come as a surprise that Danna moved on from Kansas City, seeing the writing on the wall earlier in the offseason. Danna joining the Bills does come as a bit of a frustration, with teams never wanting to see former players join rivals, no matter how unproductive they might be.
Danna is coming off an underwhelming 2025 season, offering a lone sack and a surprise interception. This was a continued regression with 3.5 sacks in 2024 after offering 6.5 in the 2023 season. With the production continually slipping in the wrong direction, it was time for KC to move on. Arrowhead Addict's Price Carter provided an interesting tidbit, noting that: "In 2025, Mike Danna played 374 snaps and logged 7 QB pressures. His 3.8% pressure rate ranks 100th among qualified edge rushers."
This makes it clear that while Danna signing with the Bills is far from ideal, it isn't likely to haunt the Chiefs in any meaningful way. Kansas City has moved on, elevating Ashton Gillotte into a more meaningful role and drafting Mason Thomas.
Kansas City has done a nice job retooling its defensive front and made Danna an afterthought when it came to a potential reunion. The veteran unquestionably has more opportunity in Buffalo, where the pass rush is a true question mark for the KC rival.
Former Chiefs pass-rusher Mike Danna joins Buffalo in predictable signing
Danna isn't the first notable Kansas City player to join a rival this offseason, as receiver Hollywood Brown joined the Philadelphia Eagles early in the 2026 offseason. While this is never ideal, the Chiefs remain a team that others target due to the incredible coaching and track record of getting the most out of their players.
There has to be a small part of Buffalo that looks at the signing of Danna as a chance to gain an edge over the Chiefs. While the Bills can never beat KC when the games actually matter, there is still an undying hope that they can find a way to close the gap, and Danna is now a piece of this.
Kansas City has had a strong offseason, but the loss of Danna serves as a reminder that the pass rush still remains a question mark. It wouldn't be a surprise to see the front office opt to add a veteran before the start of the preseason. Regardless, it made sense to turn the page on Danna and for the pass-rusher to search for relevance joining Kansas City's rival.
