The Kansas City Chiefs have big question marks in their wide receiver room ahead of the 2026 season. They lost Hollywood Brown in free agency after he led the team's wideouts in yards and didn't bring in an adequate replacement. The depth behind Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy is highly questionable, and how well the Chiefs can fill the rest of the rotation remains to be seen.

However, the grass isn't always greener on the other side, either. After leaving the Chiefs for Eagles green in free agency, Brown's tenure in Philadelphia is already trending in the wrong direction.

Brown signed a one-year, $6.5 million contract last month. Now, it looks like his path to playing time will be rockier than initially expected after the opening round of the draft.

Eagles Keep Adding More Wide Receivers Ahead of Hollywood Brown

Since signing Brown, the Eagles added three more high-profile wide receivers. First, it was the Elijah Moore signing a week after Brown. Two weeks later, the Eagles traded away a fifth-and sixth-round pick to acquire Dontayvion Wicks from the Green Bay Packers.

Just when many thought that the Eagles would be done adding to their receiver corps, they took another pass-catcher in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. The Eagles moved up from No. 23 to No. 20 to select Makai Lemon out of USC. They ended up giving their hated rival, the Dallas Cowboys, two fourth-round picks to make sure they were in position to select the 5-foot-11 WR who had 1,156 yards and 11 touchdowns last season for the Trojans.

Giving up significant assets for Lemon after already investing in the WR room suggests the Eagles weren't satisfied with the depth and quality they had in place. It also likely means that A.J. Brown's time in Philly is coming to an end.

There have been rumors for a long time about A.J. Brown being disgruntled and a trade being a likely scenario. Bringing in so many new wide receivers certainly increases the likelihood of a trade, if not all but guaranteeing it.

For Hollywood Brown, one has to wonder whether he regrets signing with the Eagles. DeVonta Smith and Lemon will be sure-fire starters. The former Oklahoma standout will be competing with Wicks and Moore for the WR3 spot. Darius Cooper, Britain Covey, Johnny Wilson, and Quez Watkins will also be at training camp fighting for a roster spot. A surprise emergence or two could really put Brown's future with the Eagles in jeopardy.

The fact that the Eagles could move on from him with only $5 million in dead money before the season certainly makes it a real possibility.
