Latest Chiefs Injury News Explains Why Patrick Mahomes Must Play vs. Texans
By Cem Yolbulan
The Kansas City Chiefs had one of their rare dominant wins of the season in Week 15 against the Cleveland Browns to improve to 13-1 for the season. While coming away with a convincing win on the road, the Chiefs lost Patrick Mahomes, who left the game early after a tackle by Dalvin Tomlinson, to an ankle injury. Carson Wentz ended up finishing the game for the Chiefs.
Since then, Chiefs fans have been furiously refreshing their feeds for any update on Mahomes. Fortunately, the star quarterback was able to be a full participant in Tuesday's practice. However, considering that it was a practice with no pads and that the Chiefs are playing on a Saturday, Mahomes and the team may not want to take a risk against Houston's elite pass rush.
If Mahomes is able to go, it behooves the Chiefs to play him, especially after the latest injury report. NFL insider James Palmer reported that Hollywood Brown is expected to return on Saturday against the Texans after being medically cleared to play. Now that the Chiefs are close to having their full complement of playmakers offensively, getting as many reps as they can with Patrick Mahomes will be very important heading into the postseason.
Chiefs News: Hollywood Brown Set to Make His Season Debut vs. Texans
Brown has yet to make his Chiefs debut after suffering a shoulder injury before the season. He was placed on injured reserve and wasn't expected to make a return in 2024. After his recovery went better than expected, the 27-year-old is ready to come back for the final stretch of the season and the playoffs.
On Tuesday, Mahomes said that he didn't want to put himself in "harm's way" or limit the game plan on offense. Obviously having Mahomes healthy for the postseason is more important than building chemistry or even securing a first-round bye. But, if he is feeling good enough to play, having him out there with Brown could pay big dividends in January.
