The Kansas City Chiefs are 9-1 on the year and have a contest against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Last week, Kansas City picked up their first loss of the season, falling to the Buffalo Bills.

The attention has shifted to getting back in the win column, but the Chiefs didn't stay content. On Friday, it was announced that Kansas City signed offensive tackle D.J. Humphries.

Humphries has spent the past year recovering from a torn ACL but is now healthy and ready to contribute. He signed a one-year deal that will pay him $2 million with a maximum value of $4.5 million. He will help the Chiefs chase their third straight Super Bowl title.

Chiefs News: D.J. Humphries Lands With Kansas City

While that helps the Chiefs team overall, it paints a clear picture of Kingsley Suamataia's 2024 outlook.

Suamataia was a healthy scratch in Week 11, showcasing the lack of faith the coaching staff has in him. The 21-year-old was drafted in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft but has struggled immensely.

The BYU product has suited up in nine outings, starting two of those games. Across 162 offensive snaps played, he's committed three penalties, allowed five hits, and gave up three sacks. According to PFF, he has a 36.8 overall grade, 32.6 pass-blocking grade, and 43.1 run-blocking grade.

The Chiefs didn't want to rely on Suamataia blocking Patrick Mahomes' blindside if Wayna Morris had to miss an extended period of time. Going forward, it will likely be Humphries starting at left tackle, with Morris being the first lineman off the bench.

As for Suamataia, he'll be watching the game from the sideline and could be inactive like he was against the Bills. That could greatly benefit him in the long run as he gets to watch a Pro Bowl tackle in Humphries' work. But in the short term, he likely won't see any action.
