The Kansas City Chiefs appear to have at least one answer in the ongoing race at the bottom of the receiver depth chart. Three players are competing for one role, with Rashee Rice no longer expected to be suspended to start the 2025 season. Tyquan Thornton, Nikko Remigio, and Skyy Moore are the trio on the bubble, all fighting for one remaining spot. At least one name should be safely crossed off this list after Friday's preseason action.

Already Moore was falling behind in the race, hanging in based only on having a history with the team. Moore's understanding of the offense and having built some level of chemistry with Patrick Mahomes are the only reasons why the veteran was even a consideration. Remigio and Thornton both have been far more impressive throughout camp and into the preseason.

With this in mind, Moore needed to play perfectly to force his way back into the debate and make a strong case. The complete opposite happened with the receiver dropping two balls in Friday's game. A familiar struggle emerged, and there simply isn't a viable excuse to be found. Both throws hit Moore in the hands and should've been easy grabs for short yardage.

While the second drop did come in a bit of traffic, the first was beyond egregious. It was a screen play with defenders all yards away from Moore, the receiver booted the ball and watched it fall harmlessly to the turf. It felt like a defining moment that in itself was enough to highlight that the competition was down to either Thornton or Remigio.

If this wasn't enough to convince the Chiefs to turn the page, Moore did the exact same thing a few plays later. A throw hit the receiver in the hands, and the pass catcher could only watch as the ball bounced dangerously in the air and up for grabs. It was ugly enough that the play had to be slowed down to realize what exactly had happened.

At this point, it is easy to feel bad for the draft bust who has to be struggling with the sudden regression. While consistency has always been an issue, there is a step back that is going to leave the Chiefs no choice but to cut the veteran and hope to find surprise production from another source.
