The Kansas City Chiefs know some additions must be made to the QB room this offseason as Patrick Mahomes rehabs from a torn ACL. Meanwhile, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported on Monday that the Chiefs are signing QB Jake Haener.

Despite that addition, they will still need to make moves in this room, and the idea of quarterback Joe Flacco joining the Chiefs is intriguing, especially after his latest comments. During an appearance on Up & Adams, quarterback Joe Flacco made it clear he isn't retiring and still has that competitive edge.

And with the Chiefs needing some stable QB play to start the season, Flacco would be an ideal target.

Joe Flacco Should Be on Chiefs Radar During Free Agency

Flacco is 41 years old and will be one of the league's oldest players at his position, but that doesn't mean he still can't be a placeholder for the Chiefs at QB. In 2025, Flacco started games for both the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals. In 13 games (10 starts), he completed 60.3 percent of his throws for 2,479 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.

Although he isn't mobile, he still has a strong arm to make throws on all three levels of the field. Flacco has played in 18 seasons and knows how to read almost any coverage thrown at him.

Despite being a backup for the last eight years, he's made a ton of plays with several different teams. That list includes Browns (2x), Colts, and Bengals. Cincinnati was so desperate last season that it decided to trade for Flacco instead of letting its season crash and burn.

The idea of having Flacco in KC's QB room would give Andy Reid a proven veteran to start the season. He's competent enough to keep the Chiefs competitive while Mahomes continues to build strength back in his knee.

The Chiefs must find a way to get a quarterback under center that they can lean on, and Flacco would give them that. And at this stage of his career, the vet won't command much money. According to Spotrac, Flacco's projected market value is listed at $5.6 million, which would come as a one-year deal.

The free agent pool at quarterback features Daniel Jones, Aaron Rodgers, Zach Wilson, Marcus Mariota, Russell Wilson, Kenny Pickett, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Mitch Trubisky. The options here aren't the most inspiring, which adds even more fuel to the smoke behind the Flacco idea.
