The Kansas City Chiefs have begun the NFL season 0-2, and while there are glaring issues on both sides of the ball, their lack of a rushing attack sticks out on offense. The Chiefs have only rushed for a combined 219 yards through two games, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes accounting for 123 of those yards himself, while Isiah Pacheco has just 47 yards on 15 carries.

Although the Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles both have solid defensive lines, the production from the Chiefs' running game needs to be better. Head coach Andy Reid also bears some of the blame for the run game struggles until he commits to the ground game.

The Chiefs should explore adding a running back before November's trade deadline. Of the potentially available names, New York Jets running back Breece Hall would be the ideal target for Kansas City general manager Brett Veach.

Chiefs Must Explore a Trade for New York Jets RB Breece Hall

Chiefs Kingdom has been talking about the idea of the team trading for a running back since the end of the preseason. None of KC's running backs stood out during training camp or the preseason games, and the lackluster production has bled into the regular season.

With a backfield boost necessary, the Chiefs should try to acquire Hall. There were rumors in the summer that the Jets might trade Hall, and while those rumors didn't come to fruition at the time, there's still a chance he won't be a Jet by the trade deadline.

The 24-year-old RB is in the final year of his rookie contract and has yet to show consistency. In 2023, Hall rushed for 994 yards and five touchdowns on 223 carries. The speed and explosiveness he ran with helped him rush for over 100 yards three times that season. While that's certainly not a lot, his big-play ability gave Jets fans a reason to believe he could rush 100 yards in any game.

Last year was a completely different story for Hall. He only recorded one game with over 100 rushing yards before finishing the season with 876 rushing yards on 209 carries.

Despite last year's woes, Hall could still be a huge asset to the Chiefs, who have a better offensive line than the Jets. Hall also already has a 100-yard performance through the season's first two weeks, which is a feat no Chiefs RB has even come close to in 2025.

Hall isn’t just another back to rotate in; he’s a difference-maker. His speed and vision would give the Chiefs the kind of rushing threat that takes pressure off Mahomes, balances the offense, and forces defenses out of two-high safety looks. With Kansas City’s superior offensive line, Hall could finally maximize his skill set in a way he hasn’t consistently been able to in New York.

Veach needs to get on the phone as soon as possible to inquire about this potential trade before another team beats him to the punch.
