The Kansas City Chiefs are no strangers to turnover, whether it's on the roster, coaching staff, or front office. When you're one of the most successful NFL teams of the century, it's only natural that opposing organizations would try to poach people to imitate the results.

Whether it's Ryan Poles going to the Chicago Bears' front office or Justin Reid regrettably signing with the New Orleans Saints, there are dozens of examples from all over the league.

In a surprising piece of news just ahead of OTAs, a former Chiefs assistant general manager is suddenly leaving his current team in the aftermath of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Former Chiefs Assistant GM Leaves Falcons in Surprise Front Office News

According to NFL insider Neil Stratton, Joel Collier is reportedly moving on from the Atlanta Falcons after nine years in both professional and collegiate scouting roles. He had been a national scout since 2019, having previously been the director of pro personnel from 2016-2018.

To some capacity, he's been a coach since 1988. Collier started as a graduate assistant at Syracuse before moving on to the professional ranks. He was Kansas City's assistant general manager from 2008-2013, and even had a year as the secondary coach at local program St. Thomas Acquinas High School in 2013.

It's unclear what caused the split, especially at this time in the calendar, though the Falcons have been known for poor front office decisions in recent years. Perhaps general manager Terry Fonteknot felt the heat and wanted to make a change but regardless, it's clear that Collier is a wise football mind and should land on his feet quickly.

The Chiefs' scouting department is among the best in the league. A reunion isn't out of the question, though Kansas City doesn't exactly have a need in that regard. Either way, here's hoping Collier finds a new job sooner than later if he's seeking one.
